How to play
DEADLOCKDLE is a daily guessing game in the spirit of Wordle and LoLdle, set in the world of Valve's Deadlock. Every day you get four independent puzzles, one for each mode. The answer is the same for everyone that day, and everything resets at your local midnight, so you start fresh each morning. There is no game over: guesses are unlimited, and your score is simply how many tries it took you. The fewer, the better.
The basics, shared by every mode
You play by typing a hero name into the search bar, which autocompletes as you type so you never have to spell anything perfectly. After each guess, the game gives you feedback and gets you closer to the answer. When you win, you can share your result as an emoji grid and keep your daily streak alive. You can also replay any past day from the archive.
Hero
Guess the hero of the day, and a grid compares six of their attributes to your guess:
- Class, Gender and Weapon type: green means an exact match, red means different. Range can also turn orange, which means you are close (an adjacent range, for example Medium when the answer is Close or Long).
- Health and Release year: these show green for a match, plus an up or down arrow telling you whether the hidden hero's value is higher or lower than your guess.
By reading the colors and arrows across a few guesses, you can narrow the roster down to the right hero.
Silhouette
A full-body hero render starts as a dark, heavily blurred shadow. Every wrong guess lifts the blur and the darkness step by step, until the hero becomes clear.
Ability
One signature ability icon is hidden behind a grid of tiles. Each wrong guess removes a few tiles, uncovering more of the always-sharp icon until you can recognize whose ability it is.
Weapon
Each Deadlock hero wields a unique signature weapon, shown blurred and dark. Every wrong guess lifts the blur step by step, until the weapon is sharp enough to name its owner.
Streaks and stats
Solving at least one puzzle a day keeps your streak going. The streak is shared across all four modes and shown on the home page, along with your daily progress. Each mode also keeps its own stats and a distribution of how many tries your wins usually take.
With friends
Found the answer fast? Share your result as a spoiler-free emoji grid and challenge your friends to beat your number of tries on the same daily puzzle.
That is everything you need. Pick a mode, make your first guess, and see how few tries it takes you today.
